Description

Possible deserted settlement <1>

Although the castle earthworks are extant there is little evidence of surviving village earthworks. There is a sunken way heading north from the castle but this is more likely to be part of the defences. The holloway recognised as running 20m east of the castle is also part of the defences, to allow access of water to the moat. Ridge and furrow is visible east of the monument. The general impression is that apart from ridge and furrow there are no other DMV earthworks visible <2>
