Full description
SOU 976 (watching brief on groundworks for the Central Parks Lottery Scheme in 1999/2000):
[1]: Houndwell Park, Trench 78. A dump of brick rubble at the south end of the trench was replaced to the north by a brick structure (possibly a plinth) with cement mortar and rendered upper surface. Both were overlain by a 0.5m thick topsoil. No finds were recovered from any of the deposits. The brick structure may have been associated with the late 18th century Southampton to Salisbury Canal. Alternatively it may have been a park feature.
