Summary
A large feature was found during a watching brief in Palmerston Park, on groundworks for the Central Parks Lottery Scheme in 1999/2000 (SOU 976 Trench 32). It may have been part of the late 18th century Southampton to Salisbury Canal, although appeared to be on the wrong alignment.

SOU 976 (watching brief on groundworks for the Central Parks Lottery Scheme in 1999/2000):
[1]: Palmerston Park, Trench 32. A large feature may have been part of the Southampton to Salisbury Canal, but it seemed to be orientated on the wrong alignment, so may be another early modern feature of unknown function.
