Full description

SOU 130 (Site 1, Upper Bugle Street) (Excavation on the east side of Upper Bugle Street in 1953):
[1] in [2]: The ground level had been reduced to the natural gravel in the modern period. In the southern trench (trench 2) north of Roman Street (now Hamtun Street - IP), the north side of the castle's south bailey ditch* was found. This was part-excavated, and the black fill contained 14th to early 16th century pottery, and medieval roof and floor tiles. Boreholes indicated a steep slope falling towards the south.

* Alternatively, this could be part of the castle motte ditch. SCC HER
