Full description

HER 11/11/11: The 1869 map [1] shows a detached building on the north corner of High Road and Stoneham Lane, Swaythling, apparently with a large grounds to the north. On this map, "Post Office" is labelled just below the building, but perhaps refering to a building on the south side of High Road. The 1896 map [2] also shows the building, but in grounds restricted to the immediate vicinity of the house. It is still shown on the 1909 map [3] but had been demolished by 1933 [4], probably when Market Buildings (MSH3552) were built. The site is now occupied by a memorial garden (MSH4639) in front of Market Buildings. This land was part of the Stoneham Estate. Sources relating to the estate are available, notably a land survey of 1818, but have not been checked (see Swaythling record MSH4317).

[5][6][7]: (Illustrations and photos checked, but can't find any of this building.)
