The West Berkshire Historic Environment Record (HER) is the primary index of the physical remains of past human activity in the unitary authority of West Berkshire Council. Limited elements of the West Berkshire HER are available online via the Heritage Gateway, therefore it is not suitable for use in desk-based studies associated with development, planning and land-use changes, and does not meet the requirements of paragraph 194 of the National Planning Policy Framework (2021: 56). Please read
the important guidance on the use of the West Berkshire HER data. For these purposes and all other commercial enquiries, please contact the Archaeology team and complete our

Full Description
Shaw Bridge House, 107 Shaw Road, is a Grade II listed 18th century remodelling of an earlier house. It has two storeys and an attic and is timber framed with a gabled front <1>. Parts possibly date to the 16th century <3> <4>. The house is situated in the centre of the post-medieval village of Shaw, next to the river Lambourn. Although it has been a detached dwelling since the middle of the 20th century, earlier mapping <5> shows that there was previously a malthouse attached to its southern boundary.
A nearby building described as the former stables of 107 Shaw Road, is also a listed building, in separate residential occupancy, and has been renamed as The Old Malthouse.
