One of several peace camps created during opposition to Cruise missiles at the airbase in the 1980s

Full Description

Following growing support for the women's peace movement, in January 1983 a camp was established at Blue Gate, at the top of Pyle Hill. This camp had a new age focus <1>.

The GIS point is approximate and is located in what has been a car park for Greenham Common users since the start of the 21st century. A grid reference for the location of the camp is included in other information collated in 2002 <6>; this is SU 483652.

The site was visited in 2003 by the Common Ground Research Group <2> and parts of it were reported to have survived in woodland <8>.
