The hundred of Eagle is mentioned in the Domesday Book, but from the 13th century was frequently mentioned with the hundred of Kintbury, and they were later combined as Kintbury Eagle <1>. The name of Eagle probably means 'Ecga's wood or clearing' <1>, and the site of the meeting place is not known.
