Full Description

The hundred of Reading is mentioned in the Domesday Book <1><2><3> and consisted of Reading, Pangbourne and what was later called the hundred of Theale. Theale hundred was formed between 1220 and 1241; after this the name of Reading hundred was also applied to a number of scattered vills which belonged to Reading Abbey, including Bucklebury and Thatcham (although they lay within Faircross) <1>.
