Full Description
Church Lodge on the northern side of the Registered Park of Aldermaston Court was built in Tudor style of red brick with grey diapering and stone dressings <1><2>. It is listed at Grade II and dated to 1848 <2>.
The revised Pevsner guide <4> says it is presumably by Hardwick, who rebuilt the mansion of Aldermaston Court between 1848-51. The lodge provided access to St Mary's Church and also the mansion, though the main drive would have passed through the gates at the south end of The Street. The 1842 Tithe map <5> indicates that there were northern routes into the park before the gate lodges of Church Lodge and Middle Lodge were built to manage them.
