A woodland archaeology project gained access to RAF Welford, a military base, to survey Rooksnest Copse and Down Copse in 2007-8 <1>. Three brick and concrete air raid shelters recorded in Rooksnest Copse are likely to date from the Second World War when RAF Welford opened.
