Full Description
A bridge at this location was designed by Brunel and built in brick as part of the Great Western Railway in 1837-40, then widened with an extra brick arch on the north side when the Great Western main line was quadrupled in 1891. The bridge was briefly listed at Grade II <1> but this decision was overturned in 2010.
The bridge's deck was replaced with a concrete beam construction in 2011-12, but the brick abutment bases were kept <2>.
