The West Berkshire Historic Environment Record (HER) is the primary index of the physical remains of past human activity in the unitary authority of West Berkshire Council. Limited elements of the West Berkshire HER are available online via the Heritage Gateway, therefore it is not suitable for use in desk-based studies associated with development, planning and land-use changes, and does not meet the requirements of paragraph 194 of the National Planning Policy Framework (2021: 56). Please read the important guidance on the use of the West Berkshire HER data. For these purposes and all other commercial enquiries, please contact the Archaeology team and complete our online HER enquiry form.

Full Description

This farm is depicted but not named on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map <1> and was therefore not noted during a 2005 survey of West Berkshire's historic farmsteads <2>. Planning applications for Aldermaston Farm in the 1970s sought to demolish the farm buildings, but the main barn appears to have been converted to residential use in about 1980 <3>. The barn was formerly listed in 1973 <4> and described as 18th century with central gabled cart entrances, ventilation slits and an old tile roof. It appears to have been de-listed following the review of the early 1980s.
