The West Berkshire Historic Environment Record (HER) is the primary index of the physical remains of past human activity in the unitary authority of West Berkshire Council. Limited elements of the West Berkshire HER are available online via the Heritage Gateway, therefore it is not suitable for use in desk-based studies associated with development, planning and land-use changes, and does not meet the requirements of paragraph 194 of the National Planning Policy Framework (2021: 56). Please read the important guidance on the use of the West Berkshire HER data. For these purposes and all other commercial enquiries, please contact the Archaeology team and complete our online HER enquiry form.

Unlisted house of late 19th century origins, developed as a farm in the mid 20th century and probably altered and extended in late 20th century

Monument Type(s):

  • DETACHED HOUSE (Late 19th century to Late 20th century - Present - 1899 AD (pre) to 1987 AD (pre))
  • FARMHOUSE? (Late 19th century to Early 21st century - 1899 AD (pre) to 2050 AD (pre))

Full Description

A detached house is marked on the Epoch 2 OS Map of 1899 <1>, on the site of an earlier much smaller building and well. The layout appears to have remained unchanged until the Epoch 5 OS map of 1971 <2>, by which time the farm is named Limberlost Farm and several more agricultural buildings have been built to the north and south of the site. The house had a benchmark on its eastern side <2>.

There were several later 20th century planning applications for replacement or alteration of the buildings around Limberlost such as replacing Limberlost Farm Cottage (95/46580/FUL). Planning approval was also given in 1987 for an extension to the main dwelling house.
