The West Berkshire Historic Environment Record (HER) is the primary index of the physical remains of past human activity in the unitary authority of West Berkshire Council. Limited elements of the West Berkshire HER are available online via the Heritage Gateway, therefore it is not suitable for use in desk-based studies associated with development, planning and land-use changes, and does not meet the requirements of paragraph 194 of the National Planning Policy Framework (2021: 56). Please read the important guidance on the use of the West Berkshire HER data. For these purposes and all other commercial enquiries, please contact the Archaeology team and complete our online HER enquiry form.

Full Description

Lyndale is an unlisted, two storey, detached house with red brick walls and a tiled roof <1>. It is marked on the Padworth Enclosure map of 1814 <2>, the Padworth Tithe map of 1841 <3> and the First Edition OS map of 1877-78 <4> onwards. It may be marked on the Odiham Ordnance Survey Drawing of 1806 <5> and on the Aldermaston Enclosure map of 1815 <6>. It is first named on the Fifth Edition map of 1970 <7>, after which, it appears to have been extended at the back <1><8>, possibly in relation to a planning application to use the house for residential accommodation for the nearby school <9>.

A bread oven appears to have survived at one side of the chimney <1>.
