Full Description
One Tree Cottage was an unlisted bungalow with brick walls and a tiled roof on the west side of Greenham Common <1>. It is first marked on the Second Edition OS map of 1899 <2> and first named on the Third Edition map of 1911 <3>. It replaced an older house with several small outbuildings marked on the Greenham Tithe map of 1840 <8> and the First Edition OS map of 1880 <9>, and was itself demolished in 1951 or soon after in relation to the expansion of Greenham Common Airbase that year <1><10><11>.
West Berkshire Museum has two black and white photographs of silver birch trees on Greenham Common taken by Stan Ford near One Tree Cottage in the early 1950s <12><13>.
