Full Description
MEDIEVAL ("LATE SAXON") POTTERY RECOVERED DURING WATCHING BRIEF WHEN 3 HOLES DUG. STRATIGRAPHY RECORDED BY ASTILL.
During Vince's excavation of this site in 1979, three pottery fabrics were identified in Phase 1. Group A was probably current in the first half of the 11th century and was the stratigraphically earliest type of pottery found on the site. It was found within three ditches of Phase 1a, which were suggested to have been drainage ditches.
