The West Berkshire Historic Environment Record (HER) is the primary index of the physical remains of past human activity in the unitary authority of West Berkshire Council. Limited elements of the West Berkshire HER are available online via the Heritage Gateway, therefore it is not suitable for use in desk-based studies associated with development, planning and land-use changes, and does not meet the requirements of paragraph 194 of the National Planning Policy Framework (2021: 56). Please read the important guidance on the use of the West Berkshire HER data. For these purposes and all other commercial enquiries, please contact the Archaeology team and complete our online HER enquiry form.

Full Description

Manor Farmhouse is described as 16th century with 18th, 19th and 20th century additions including a large wing to the north <1>. It is timber framed with some later brick, but was probably a hall house of three bays <1><5>.

It lies within a manorial complex including fish ponds which was once owned by the Abbots of Reading and was then granted to John Winchcombe. Fire destroyed the greater part of the 'manor house' in 1830-3 <2>; it seems that this was the building later named Bucklebury House rather than this farmhouse. Due to the 'Manor' name being used for several different buildings, there is the possibility of some confusion.
