Full Description

'Hamesteda'/'Hamestede' recorded in Domesday. The name means 'homestead'. Domesday records that the land was held from the king by Hugolin the steersman. The village became the chief residence of William the Marshal, earl of Pembroke, in the 13th century (the given NGR is for the church).
