Full Description
Major <1> gives the NGR of this mill as SU 559 640, but Hyde End Mill is clearly marked on historic <2> <10> and modern mapping at cSU 5549 6338, whereas the former location is shown as Paul's Hole Cottage. There is a mill shown on the 'Auborn River' on Rocque's 1761 map <3> and the Ordnance Survey Drawings of 1817 <4>.
The Victoria County History of 1924 notes that the mill at Hyde End was 'recently converted into a trout hatchery, which is the property of the Hyde family' <5>. The Hyde End Fishery appears on historic Ordnance Survey mapping from the Second Epoch <6> to the 5th <7>.
Major noted that only the leat of the watermill remained in 1962 <1>.
