Full Description
C18TH TIMBER HEAD APRON COMPRISING BASE-PLATE, PLANK FLOOR, SIDE WALLS AND MITRE CILL. ABANDONED WHEN LOCK SHORTENED/ WIDENED C.1854.
The lock was drained for minor repairs in January 1993 and a timber head apron (a platform at the entrance to the lock chamber) of mid 18th century date was discovered <1><2><3>. It comprised a base plate, plank floor, side walls and mitre cill. It had fallen out of use when the lock was shortened and widened in c1854.
