<1> An evaluation north of the cinema on Parkway indicated medieval features suggesting exploitation of peat but no structural activity. Peat was present in all three trenches excavated. A number of the features were linear in nature, and one slot appeared to cut the peat in a series of spade cuts. Other features might have been large pits or linear features. Medieval pottery, much of it abraded, was found mainly on surface spreads. Several well preserved animal bones were also found in fills of cut features, probably representing small scale dumping. It was concluded that this site was beyond the area of the medieval town of Newbury.
