Summary
Little Park, Arundel, is completely surrounded by earthworks (see 1958) with two stone entrances (presumably St. Mary's Gate and a gateway on the N. side. These earthworks were increased prior to the Civil War siege. About the centre of the enclosed area are some foundations of a large building. Other foundations may here and there be traced, supporting the belief that, prior to 1295, a part of the town may have occupied this site. {1}{2} The central part of Little park is now occupied by a cricket ground which was terraced into the hill slope many years ago.The surrounding earthworks pre-date the park.{3} Some parch-marks showed to N. and E. of the cricket ground in the dry summer of 1975. They were irregular, but looked suspiciously like building footings.{4}
