Summary
The North-East gate, Porta Decumana, of the legionary fortress was situated under the Mediaeval wall in Lord Mayor's Walk opposite Groves Lane.
The RCHME suggest that the considerable subsidence in the medieval wall here suggests that the gate might have been much robbed.
The rampart on the outside of the City Wall shows indications of two areas where the rampart has subsided on either side of a raised area. This may indicate that the Porta Decumana survives within the rampart.
The Porta Decumana probably provided the main entrance into the medieval city from the north-east until Monk Bar was constructed in the early 14th century.
