NMR Information:

[Area centred SE 600522]. A fortified enclosure adjoins the Roman fortress on the N.W. A massive wall continues the line of the S.W. wall of the fortress. It probably turned N.E. under Marygate and continued as far N.E. as Bootham. The enclosure so formed would have a minimum size of some 600 ft. square. Remains revealed by excavation are:-
(a) wall running SE-NW under S. wall of S. aisle of St. Mary's Abbey Church, in line with the S.W. wall of fortress (59945213).
(b) wall under Marygate running SW-NE, exposed at 59955229 and 59975233 in 19th century.
(c) Street and building within enclosure in garden of Yorkshire School for the Blind at 60025223. Excavated in 1928. (1)

Probably a fort annexe. (2)
