Summary: | Vis=estimated -/-/1963(andrew,s. ) the king's school. Founded in 14th century by bishop grandisson for eight choir boys and a master. Choir housed in one of the college buildings.(see sy09ne/47) college dissolved 1545 and henry viii established a free grammar school. Rebuilt after fire in 1581. School closed 1881 as it was in a bad state of repair, and sold to the vicar for $640. In 1894 the priory was bought by the school governors and a new school established there.(sy09ne/22). A new school was built in 1912 on a new site (thorne farm). |
