Summary:The Taunton Stop Line was one of a series of defences put in place to slow down any possible enemy advance across the country. Alongside the stop lines several defensive islands or hedgehogs were set up at particular locations and surrounded by pillboxes and anti tank obstacles. These were generally towns or villages that had natural defensive qualities or were strategically located.
