Summary: | The barrow has an apparent berm. Fair condition. One of several cairns on summit of butterdon hill; this one lies to the ne (to ssw of stone circle at end of stone row?) on ground sloping from s to n. Condition fair, the stones are uncovered but are much disturbed around the perimeter. Has an apparent berm, but this is not thought to be an original feature. Despite having been holed, this cairn is so big that the primary burial is not likely to have been reached. Os 6" cxix se 23.2m diameter 3.3m high. Vis=23/6/1973 (grinsell, l. V. ) apparently a bell barrow with berm raised. No ditch. Diameter 28m, height 3.0m. Vis=12/6/1984 (robinson) fmw visit. Vis=large cairn visible on nmr 1976 and raf 1946 aps (rchm app 1985). Vis=estimated -/-/1990 (ancient monuments). One of 4 cairns on butterdon hill, which are part of a series of large stone cairns along the ridge between butterdon hill and weatherdon hill.
