Summary: | "sheepley or shipley" marked on blackawton tithe map (1840). Replaced in c 1850 by current large house. Built in gothic revival style for the ridgeway family (tea importers). Now converted to flats. Change in plan visible between 1840 small farmstead set in arable, pasture and orchard fields, to os 25" (1880's) map, with sheplegh court set in landscaped grounds. Said to have been occupied by eisenhower during wwii. Munitions removal from woods recently.(worksheet). Vis=17/2/1993 (horner).
