Summary: | During work for present development, foundation trenches cut across the infilled ditch, which was V-shaped, 6.5m wide and 4.5m deep. A layer of black soil in the bottom of the tch contained a large quantity of animal bones and pieces from unglazed medieval cooking pots dating from before 1250. On the south west corner of site, one sherd of Iron Age pottery was recorded from earlier cultivation soil sealed below the rampart. |
