Summary: | A large number of small rectangular stone cutting pits lie within a large partially enclosed settlement. These pits represent the site of large granite boulders which have been cut up and removed. Further evidence for surface working of granite is provided by a large number of rocks bearing lines of drill marks indicative of tear and feather stone splitting. There are 2 pits within enclosure (PRN 4906). The E pit measures 4m by 3.5m by 0.6m deep, whilst the W pit is 6m by 4m by 0.8m deep. Other pits scattered throughout the settlement are of similar dimensions. |
