Summary: | A castle existed in Exminster on the left side of the road from Exeter opposite Pottles Lane. William Courtenay, Archbishop of Canterbury, was born there in 1381. An archway stood there until the 14th century. In about 1870 digging revealed the foundations and wide stone steps leading to the entrance. Stones were used to build a new wall. |
