| Summary: | Analysis of 55 timbers taken from Poltimore House in 2005 resulted in the identification of two construction sequences. Roof timbers & two stud posts from the east wing & the eastern part of the north wing were dated to the mid 16C. Timbers from the south front were dated to 1725 & one timber from the east range suggested work was being undertaken in 18C. Timbers from the ground & first floor frames were dated to the mid 16C & late 17C/early 18C. The earlier timbers from the south range represented the secondary use of these timbers. |
