Summary: | An Iron Age shoe was found in a hollowed tree trunk during excavations at Town Farm by Exeter Archaeology. The shoe, which is the equivalent of a size 10, is so well preserved that stitch and lace holes are still visible in the leather. As far as is known, this is the oldest shoe found in the United Kingdom. The hollowed tree trunk was one of two timber-built wells found on the site thought to date from the early part of the Iron Age. |
