Summary: | Divers discovered a submerged hoard of Bronze Age artefacts within the protected area of the Salcombe Cannon Shipwreck site (see PRN 58271). The finds included swords, rapiers, pastave axe heads, an adze, a cauldron handle & a gold bracelet were being studied by the British Museum in 2005. The swords are amongst the earliest found in northwest Europe & some of the objects are of unusual northern French origin. It is believed the artefacts came form an ancient shipwreck dating to c13C BC. The artefacts belong to the same phase as those found at 'Moor Sands' (see PRN 7065) to the north & may have come from the same vessel.. |
