Summary: | One of three studies of monastic sites considered to be under particular threat of destruction or damage. It was initially founded as an Augustinian monastery for monks in the later 12th century but was refounded as a nunnery in the later 13th century. It was dissolved in 1539.
A surviving datestone suggests that a house was built on the site of the abbey in 1628 but this too was replaced in the 18th century. The site is now split between several private owners with no public access. The two principal surviving remains are the gatehouse and the reredorter. |
