Title: | An Archaeological Watching Brief at Haccombe House Estate, Newton Abbot, Devon |
---|
Originator: | Tyler, K. |
---|
Date: | 2008 |
---|
Summary: | A watching brief was undertaken by Exeter Archaeology during the construction of a new water main at Haccombe Estate a former Domesday Manor and a settlement site of known archaeological potential dating from at least the Saxon period. Monitoring of the pipeline route identified a possible demolition deposit relating to the demolition of the village, known to have been ordered in the late 18th or early 19th century, together with two cobbled surfaces one of which might represent an early roadway to Haccombe House where a medieval manor house existed before the Georgian house. |
