Summary:	The Devon Religious Houses Survey, a Devon County Council Rescue Project, is an archaeological survey of medieval religious houses in Devon undertaken by P. Weddell, M. Laithwaite and others on behalf of Devon County Council Amenities and Countryside Division. The Rescue Project arose from the number of threats to such sites that have occurred in the recent past, the lack of current information within the SMR [now HER] and the limited amount of archaeological work that has been undertaken recently. The project, sponsored by English Heritage, aims to identify how much remains of the medieval abbeys, priories and other religious houses in Devon and to consider how they might be conserved for the future. Sixty plus sites were included in the project. The work comprised a rapid assessment of all the sites, summarising the present state of knowledge of each site. This was followed by a more detailed survey of each site in order to define the extent of the religious house and its plan, identify the earthwork and standing remains and assess its post-dissolution history.
