Summary: | Archaeological monitoring and recording undertaken during groundworks for the excavation of a cable trench and removal of a path around the west and south side of the tower. The features and deposits revealed are considered typical for a shallow excavation within a churchyard. No articulated human remains were discovered and the only artefact recovered with a single sherd of totnes-type medieval coarseware. No structural evidence for walls or surfaces associated with the nave of the church was revealed adjacent to the tower. This suggests that disturbance caused by its demolition or later landscaping extended to a depth greater than 0,5 metres below present ground level. |
