Title:Archaeological Trench Evaluation and Resistivity Survey at Membury Court, Membury, East Devon
Originator:Smart, C. + Pearce, P.
Date:April 2011
Summary:Three trenches targeted to investigate archaeological features indicated by a previous geophysical survey. Trench 1 revealed a pair of robber ditches, Trench 2 the northern ditch of a substantial enclosure, probably of Late Iron Age or Early Roman date and Trench 3 a pair of enclosure ditches. Pottery and building debris from these is consistent with a Roman date. Targeted resistivity survey placed the masonry building in its wider context showing that it was probably an ancillary building with the main villa to the south.
