Originator: | Timms, S. C. |

Date: | 26/11/1976 |

Summary: | Excavations in 1976 concentrated on the interior of the stone-built house. This was found to comprise two rooms separated by a wide through passage. The north room was well-appointed with plastered walls, a window overlooking the street and a fireplace in the rear wall. Preliminary results suggest that the structure dated to the early 16th century. Beneath the deposits associated with this structure a stone foundation wall of probable late medieval date was found to run across the site at a slight angle to the street line. The depth of build-up and the good state of preservtion highlights the potential for remains not just for the rest of the site but for Highweek Street as a whole. |
