Title:The Green Lane Access Site, Barnstaple, North Devon
Originator:Markuson, K. W.
Date:1979
Summary:Interim report on excavations on Green Lane Access Site carried out in 1979. The excavtions provided an opportunity to investigate medieval defences on eastern side of town which are first mentined in 1107. Today the proposed line of the wall is represented by a property boundary running parallel to Boutport Street. A shallow robber trench was found along the line of this boundary. A geophysical survey located the town ditch about 10m outside the wall. Upon excavation it proved to be V-shaped, about 4.0 metres wide and 1.75 metres deep.
