Summary: | Wasters from an early 16th-century pottery kiln have been recovered at Lichdon Street, Barnstaple. The products consist of jugs in the medieval tradition, alongside cups, globular jars and bowls. The collection is the first of this date known from North Devon; comparisons with other finds of 16th- and 17th-century North Devon pottery highlight a number of characteristics which should aid the identification of material of this date in future. |
