Summary: | A survey of the earthworks at Bampton Castle was undertaken in May 1992. The surviving earthworks, which date to the late 11th-mid 12th century, comprise a well-preserved motte and the southern part of the bailey, with faint traces also of the north side. There is also evidence for a larger enclosure to the north. This is undated but may predate the castle. |
