| Summary: | A second phase of archaeological trenching was carried out comprising the machine-excavation of 29 trenches. The evaluation has provided important new evidence supporting the conclusion that a previously unknown first-century Roman fort with double ditches and with internal timber buildings stood on the upper half of the site. In the southern part of the site further medieval and post-medieval agricultural ditches were identified, but no trace of a mill or leat. |
