Summary: | Excavations at Headon South Tip investigated a group of prehistoric monuments identified by earlier surveys and fieldwork. No finds were recovered from any of the monuments, however samples provided radiocarbon dates of the Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Age. Charcoal from palaeoenvironmental samples from the pit circle and twin barrows showed oak to be the dominant species. The charcoal probably represents fuel waste from ritual/funerary activities. The lack of pottery and cremated bone appears to be characteristic of Darmoor barrows/cairns |
