| Summary: | Excavations by Wessex Archaeology in 1996-9 in advance of improvements to the A30 revealed the remains of a Roman military base at Pomeroy Wood. Further works within fields to the north led to a geophysical survey ad recorded by Exeter Archaeoogy. These investigations enabled the northern extent of the base to be established. The article also includes some discussion on the layout, nature and role of the base. |
