Title: | Bideford Long Bridge. A Salvage Operation |
---|
Originator: | Holt, H. P. |
---|
Date: | 1970 |
---|
Summary: | A stone built bridge built over an earlier wooden one. It was strengthened and widened circa 1790 and again in the 1860s and in 1924-5. When the most westerly pier collapsed in January 1968 its repair provided the opportunity to widen and strengthen the bridge again and to improve its western approach, but preserving the irregular length of the spans and styling of the earlier bridge. |
