Title:Archaeological Recording at Berry Head, Brixham, Devon, May to October 2009

Summary:A report with the results of archaeological recording carried out during construction works at Berry Head as part of the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust’s ‘On the Edge’ Project. The recording was carried out on two Napoleonic-era forts, called Fort 1 and Fort 3. In Fort 1 a building recording and excavation was undertaken and details about the original layout and construction of the guardhouse, magazine and kitchen were revealed. Including, two previously hidden fireplaces in the guardhouse. In Fort 3, building recording and excavation was carried out on the guardhouse and Second World War/Cold War Royal Observer Corp building. This uncovered features, including part of a timber framed building and a short length of tunnel forming part of a drainage system.
