Summary:	Details of the surviving milestones along an old route from Barnstaple and Crediton, between High Bickington and Morchard Bishop. The Barnstaple stones are the characteristic small tombstone type inscribed BARUM. They were set c.1879 to commemorate the closure of the turnpike. The Exeter stones appear to be older, perhaps dating from the time the road was first built in the late 18th century. They are inscribed with mileage from the city which is shown as the medieval Latin, Exon. The finger post at Chawleigh is also an interesting feature, with its distinctive wavy arm design.
